Diesel engine run: Retro Mk1 by André Demesse
French gentleman André Demesse built the Retro's in Luxemburg. This engine is the first version, Mk I of the Retro, a classic piston ported design, built in 1985. I also own a Mk II which, I haven't run yet.
The run on the video is the first run in my hands of this rare engine. Not knowing its history, I'm running it rich and under-compressed, using a fuel with high castor oil content.
Fuel: equal parts of ether, castor oil, lamp oil, plus 2% ignition improver (Amsoil)
Propeller: 9x4

My Sherman Gillespie Project - Episode #6 - The Sport Wing
Переглядів 492Місяць тому
The Sport Wing was one of the finished plans by Sherman Gillespie in 1957, in the bunch of plans that I got from him. The video is from the maiden day, June 29, 2024, in Lakeville California. I converted the wire wing saddle shown on the original plan, to a spruce built-up construction which, I'm hoping is going to be more builder-friendly. While adjusting the incidences, I opted to only pack t...

Mills Brothers' third engine, after the popular 0.75cc and 1.3cc versions. The Mk III is a rear rotary valve engine, unlike the previous and smaller Mills engines, which were side-ported. Propeller: 10x4 Tornado Fuel: Equal parts of ether, lamp oil and castor oil, plus 2% ignition improver (Amsoil)
Diesel engine run: Valentine modified Cox Medallion .09 cu.in.

Cox Medallion 09 modified by Ronald Valentine for diesel operation. This is a brand new engine so I was being careful with the first few runs. I had a little trouble keeping the prop on, but nothing major. Propeller: Cox 8x4 Texaco Fuel: Equal parts with 2% ignition improver (Amsoil0

Nardi FN.305 from Mike Nassise plan
Переглядів 2892 місяці тому
A couple flights of my Nardi FN.305 which I built from late Mike Nassise plan. The model has a 20.5" wingspan and weighs about 27g excluding rubber. In the first flight I used a 4g 4 strands of 3/32" rubber, which roughly resulted in a motor length of 1.5x hook-to-peg distance. This long motor made the glide quite unpredictable as the slack moved about in the fuselage after the motor run. The s...

Bill Dean's Bandit flying at Lost Hills in a wonderful evening at Lost Hills. The model was built and given to me by dear friend Paul, before his move to overseas. I stripped the old tissue and recovered the model (doculam tissue). The model needed some retrimming due to change in weight distribution. The engine is an original Mills 75 with an 8x4 Top-Flite nylon propeller.
Diesel engine run: Early American "pre-Gotham" Deezil, 2cc, circa 1948
Переглядів 2445 місяців тому
I've been after an early version of the Deezil for some time and recently found one in reasonable shape. Most importantly, the guts were in excellent shape with very good compression, even though the mounting flanges were broken, the rear cover had brutal tool marks on it and the needle was missing. I discovered that the crankcase of this early version is interchangeable with the later and the ...
Diesel engine run: Buš FROG 2.5cc, made in Czechoslovakia 1952

Front-induction plain bearing long stroke diesel engine designed and manufactured by Gustav Bušek in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1952 according to the Dunkin book, or in 1944 according to the Linka/Kafka book. Per James Dunkin, it is assumed that this engine is called "FROG" because of the long cylinder hold-down bolts, which are reminiscent of English FROG 100 series diesels. In the video, I'm ...

Diesel engine run: French Micron 2.5 cc side port, from 1951
Переглядів 2616 місяців тому
My first run of this old Micron. It took a while to get it going but at the end it delivered a sweet song... It's a very quiet engine though it may a bit over-propped which probably contributes to the its quietness. I shall experiment with a smaller propeller and different fuel mixtures. Vive la France! Fuel: Equal parts (I used SAE 60 mineral oil and no ignition improver) Propeller: 10x6
Diesel engine run: Taplin Twin 8cc diesel engine

A short run of my British Taplin Twin Mk III, air cooled version. According to the invoice in the box, the engine was purchased in 1970 and was imported to the US. I'm still getting the hang of running a twin. Here in this video, I'm not sure if the rear cylinder is properly adjusted... Sounds pretty nice nevertheless! Fuel: equal parts of ether, lamp oil, castor oil, plus 2% ignition improver ...

Beatiful flight 😮 28" wingspan guauuu amazing. Thanks very much. 😊
The famous Oakland Cloud Dusters. I've heard so much about you over the years, Thanks: Rudolph. Was this Joe Bilgri's club?
@@1freedlander yes Rudolf. Joe Bilgri was an Oakland Cloud Duster.
Awesome plane! Thank you for sharing.
Super color treatment of the wings!
What did you cover the tissue with?
The tissue I use is regular Esaki in most cases, which is a lightweight tissue. On larger models, I tend to use medium weight tissue. I also covered a number of models with Hallmark gift wrap tissue, or dollar store tissue with no major problems, unless you'd like to cover wet.
That's actually a very cool looking plane . Marvelous build . Sweet .
wonderful!
Thank you! I should build another Guillow model. They got much better after laser cutting.
You should lock him up in a glass case He is just too good to lose He a bonafide cloud hopper
Just perfect!
Beautiful P-40 Warhawk! You ought to build one as an RC airplane, particularly because it flies so well and looks very realistic. Happy building and flying! Thank you for sharing and posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨✈️
I just discovered your channel Thanks so much. Simple (if you’ve done it before) but beautifully executed build and flight!
beautiful place to play rubber powered planes bro
Yes, we're blessed that way!
красивая модель, очень!! буду такую же делать летом
That thing flies wonderfully! I had a Jetco Thermic 50 original, which has very similar wing and tail, but the fuselage is a traditional full-frame. That was one of the best free-flight planes I'd ever built as a kid, and I'm looking into building it again by bringing the plans to a copy shop. There are a bunch of people online selling copies of these old gliders' plans too! Anyways, NICE PLANE!!!
Прекрасный полет.
Here In the UK we have to choose the weather conditions very carefully. That's the what being an island does for free flight.
Show de bola parabéns!
what a beauty!!!
Muito legal parabéns!
Poetry.
What wingspan is this?
If I recall correctly, 64".
THANKS!

There's already a 2.5m version in the Zaic line of Thermics. You can find the plans on Outerzone. outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=1573
Brave man - no stuffer tube.. ok it was a test flight. Glad he missed the thermal streamer pole at launch!
podrias poner los planos de alguno de los modelos con motor a goma que tienes???
These are not my models, so I don't have the plans. You may be able to find some of them, or similar models' plans on Outerzone. outerzone.co.uk/

Excelente, sir! Do you know how can I get a plan?
As good as it gets .
Beautiful . Every model so perfectly trimmed . I went to watch a rubber scale competition in the UK and most of the models spiraled into the ground . It was heartbreaking to watch so many experienced modellers get it wrong .
какая прелесть..
Wow! What memories this brought to the surface. Free flight is so pure and the experience of this guy. Beautiful. Thanks for posting!
What a great rubber model. No need for a dethermalizer?
For sure :). See around 10:40.
More right thrust and down thrust with some left rudder.
I think many of those were lost in a thermal back in the 1950s and never saw him again
Where can I buy one of these models?
Hi Thatcher, these are all built from kits or plans by Jonathan. If you're interested in knowing about sources for kits, please let me know and I'll try to send you a few pointers.
I bet that wouldn’t come down in a thermal even when dt ed.
This video is awe awesome. As a 69 year old man I can not thank you enough for posting this. Now I know that rubber powered can fly for a long time on their own. I hope you were able to find that P51 Mustang. My favorite airplane and apparently best flying it just went out of sight. Great job again. 👍👍👍
Thank you for the nice comment Bob! That Mustang didn't go very far actually, as you can see from the streamers in the video, it was a calm day, excellent for these smaller models.
@@atesus good I was hoping you did not loose it. That little guy has to be my favorite although very difficult to choose a favorite out of all your collection they're all great. Was that Mustang from plans or was it a kit?
@@bobgreen3116 Jonathan Nunez, the gentleman in the video, is the builder. I suspect it's a Peck-Polymers kit. All the best!
Nice 👍🙂 really nice
That is fun. Great video.

Wow, fantastic
Delightful. Utterly delightful in every way. There's hope for the world whilst old boys and their models like this exist.
Such beauty, such simplicity. True aeromodelling. A delight to witness.
Great build, Great modet, Great flying!
